B.L.T. Tesco -- £1.60
Review posted: 31/12/2005Standard supermarket fare. A fairly ordinary sandwich, but it has some good, positive qualities and a fair price.
The bacon is by far the nicest thing in this sandwich. It has a good strong flavour and a slightly sweet tinge which goes nicely with the peppery mayonnaise in this sandwich. There is also a nice amount of it spread evenly throughout the sandwich.
The salad in this sandwich is very mixed. The tomato is good, it's normally fairly juicy and tasty, but the lettuce can be a bit soggy and there normally isn't enough of it. The taste of the lettuce is okay, but hardly exciting. Having said this, there is normally a good amount of both in the sandwich.
The bread itself is rather uninspiring. It is malted brown and tastes okay, but it is cut far too thinly and almost seems to have been flattened somehow. This makes the whole sandwich a bit flimsy and the filing will often fall out if there isn't enough mayonnaise. The bread also has distinctly bitter tasting crusts.
The aforementioned mayonnaise is pleasant, if a tad bland. It has a mild peppered taste and a creamy element to it, but it does lack a certain something. However, it certainly goes nicely enough with the other fillings.
So not a spectacular sandwich then, but one with decent ingredients, fairly good mayonnaise and a relatively fair price.
