Chicken, Bacon & Avocado

Review posted: 31/12/2005Pointless and expensive. The really disappointing thing about this sandwich is that rather than being a more refined and higher quality version of the "Chicken & Avocado", it is instead the "Chicken & Bacon" with some garnish and a bloated price tag. This sandwich is in the "Finest" range.
The same slightly artificial flavoured sweet-cure bacon is present, although at least the portion in this is smaller than in the "Chicken & Bacon" where it was entirely overpowering. The chicken portion is pretty much the same though - it's far too small, and the pieces themselves are also rather measly again.
The biggest change in the use of avocado is that this sandwich uses thick slices, rather than the smaller chunks in the "Chicken & Avocado". The smaller pieces worked well in the aforementioned sandwich, but thankfully the large pieces work here too. The avocado is fresh and soft and add a certain amount of texture, although its taste is rather obscured by the bacon in particular.
However, there are other problems. Gone is the excellent basil mayonnaise from the "Chicken & Avocado" and in is the slightly bland peppered mayonnaise from most other Tesco sandwiches. As I have said before, this mayonnaise is okay, but it can do little here and the portion is rather small. The malted brown bread suffers from the sparse amount of filling, which leads to its bitter aftertaste coming through more than in a lot of other sandwiches.
Why this sandwich is in the "Finest" range, I have no idea. It's distinctly ordinary in nearly every way and certainly isn't worth the high price. Really there is little point to this sandwich, especially since it has a superior competitor within the same retailer, and that's actually quite pathetic.
