Christmas Sandwich
Tesco -- £1.99

Tasty, but hardly festive.

A pleasing and tasty sandwich for sure, but one which ultimately fails to be particularly festive in its composition and flavours.

First of all the turkey, which is moist, full of flavour and plentiful. The rather thin slices (and probably some degree of processing) have rendered it a little lacking in texture, but the taste is strong and pleasing. The stuffing is a little less interesting, and although the flavour is certainly pleasant and well suited, it lacks the punch that is normally expected from such a filling.

The slices of pork sausage are a little sparse, but their flavour is strong and they add a bit of well needed bite to this sandwich. Similarly, the slices of sweet-cure bacon don't do as much as they should, but the flavour comes out well enough, and the combination of all the fillings is certainly pleasant.

What is certainly lacking in this sandwich is any form of greenery - not even lettuce, or the more usual watercress which is found in a lot of Christmas sandwiches. The peppered mayonnaise goes nicely with most of the meat fillings, but there's nothing particularly "Christmassy" about it. Also, the serving of cranberry sauce is hopeless and barely registers.

There is much to enjoy in this sandwich, particularly the variety and flavour of the meats. However, even they have some problems and overall this sandwich may as well be a standard "Chicken & Stuffing", because it certainly lacks the necessary festive filling qualities.
