Egg & Bacon

Review posted: 31/12/2005A classic mid-price sandwich. This sandwich was never going to be spectacular, but considering the success of these fillings in other sandwiches, it was not going to be a total disaster either.
The bacon which worked nicely in the "B.L.T." is nearly just as pleasant here. The slightly sweet-cure flavour is welcome, although because it doesn't have the tasty peppered mayonnaise to work with in this sandwich, its effect isn't quite as distinctive. However, it's still tasty and the portion size is good with plenty of rashers evenly distributed.
Similarly, the egg mayonnaise which added its rich and creamy flavour to the "Egg & Cress" is also well suited here. The slight sweetness of the bacon sits well with the strong flavour of the egg, and this is often a difficult balance to get right.
Also, the malted brown bread, while occasionally too bitter with other fillings, works well here and this negative trait is almost entirely subdued by the rest of the fillings.
Obviously there are still better quality sandwiches than this on the market, but for a decent mid-price offering this doesn't do too many things wrong. It's nothing to get excited about, but there are many in the same price range which are certainly inferior and Tesco certainly deserve some credit where it's due.
