Review posted: 31/12/2005For this price, it's impossible to fault. This is quite possibly one of the best value egg and cress sandwiches on the market. It doesn't add other fillings for effect or succumb to other similar gimmicks. It just offers pretty tasty filling and at a very good price.
The egg mayonnaise itself is just very nice indeed. It has a nice and rich flavour with good size pieces of egg in it, and although it is occasionally a bit watery it isn't pureed like a lot of egg mayonnaise can be. There is also plenty of it and it is smothered right up to the crusts in this sandwich. Similarly, there is plenty of fresh, strong tasting cress. It has a delightfully strong pepper taste and goes very nicely with the egg mayonnaise, complementing it very well.
The bread is less spectacular, it is a standard granary, and although it goes nicely with the filling, the crusts still suffer from being too bitter which detracts a little from the flavour.
There isn't a vast amount to write about this sandwich. It is just well made, with a good filling so not much more can be expected from it. Another big selling point is the very good price, which is easily the lowest around. This sandwich is far from perfect, but it's excellent value.
