Honey Roast Salmon Tesco -- £2.49
Review posted: 31/12/2005Tesco does gourmet. Overall this is a very good sandwich indeed, and it's successful largely because of its quality ingredients, which are literally bursting with flavour. This sandwich is in the "Finest" range.
The salmon in this sandwich is delicious. My doubts were raised because it is the shredded variety, which can sometimes lead to a loss in flavour. Also the portion seemed rather small. However, this salmon is just bursting with flavour, and even among the other fillings in the sandwich it is still very noticeable, and the texture is luxurious too.
The salad is similarly impressive, with a proper serving of fresh iceberg lettuce, coupled with thick slices of crunchy cucumber. By leaving out salad with overwhelming flavours (e.g. onion or tomato), Tesco have ensured that the taste of the salmon is the most prominent.
The brown bread is fine, if not spectacular, but it certainly doesn't detract. The dill mayonnaise is an interesting addition and it works quite well. It has a relatively mild flavour, but again that means it doesn't overpower the salmon and is quite efficient at complementing it.
This is a very tidy sandwich. The flavours all work well together, the portion sizes are sensible and there is little to fault it on. Perhaps considering the amount of salmon it is a little overpriced, but this is only a minor complaint. This sandwich is highly recommended.
