Tuna Mayonnaise & Cucumber Tesco -- £1.75
Review posted: 17/01/2006A good mid-price tuna sandwich. Despite this sandwich being in Tesco's "Finest" range, it's still comfortably mid-priced and possesses many fine qualities.
The tuna mayonnaise isn't vastly different from that in the other Tesco tuna based sandwich, the "Tuna & Sweetcorn". However, there is a slight difference in quality, although it still verges on the paste side of things. The flavour is good though and the mayonnaise seems to be different, bringing a slightly richer and creamier taste to the sandwich. The portion is also ample too.
The salad is very good indeed, with plenty of fresh and crispy lettuce and excellent thick slices of cucumber. Naturally, both of these go nicely with the tuna. If there's one criticism it's that just occasionally this sandwich can be a little dry, but it's a rare event.
Even the malted brown bread works here, combining well with all the flavours. And even its somewhat bitter aftertaste is almost entirely obliterated.
This sandwich isn't quite as good as the Sainsbury's offering, but it comes close. All the fillings are tasty and it's a pretty fair price too.
