Spicy Chicken Tesco -- £1.60
Review posted: 31/07/2006Interesting, but not particularly spicy. I often think that some words are just as gimmicks to sell sandwiches - "spicy" is one of those. While I've eaten many sandwiches flavoured with various spices, none of them has made me take a step back and consider the impact of the spices involved. This is very much one of those, but it's still a pretty decent sandwich.
The portion of chicken is pretty good, although the pieces of it are rather annoyingly small. Its flavour comes through well enough though, and it's certainly helped by the tasty spiced marinade it's smothered with. It doesn't have a exciting or particularly novel flavour to be honest, but it's pleasant and surprisingly prominent.
This sandwich also features a tomato salsa, and this causes a few problems. For one thing, even though the portion is quite small, its flavour is very noticeable. It doesn't overpower the chicken as such, but it's always present and it's certainly not as pleasant as the chicken.
The malted brown bread is ordinary, but at least this variety has a reputation for going well enough with chicken, and it certainly does here.
All things considered, this is a good sandwich. It lacks a bit of quality here and there and it doesn't need the tomato salsa, but by and large it's tasty, well priced and a little different.
