All Day Breakfast Tesco -- £2.00
Review posted: 23/10/2006Hearty and simple. There's nothing in this sandwich that screams good quality, nor is it particularly well put together. And yet, it manages to be tasty, affordable and really quite pleasant.
The dominant filling in this sandwich is sausage; it's cut up into slices and they are literally sprinkled throughout it. The flavour of this sausage is fine, although the portion is in many ways slightly too large, and the way the pieces are randomly scattered around the sandwich is a little annoying. The portion of bacon on the other hand is slightly too small, although as one would expect its flavour combines well with that of the sausage.
Elsewhere there is a decent egg mayonnaise. Its slightly creamy flavour goes well with the meat fillings, and the portion is ideal; too much can often make this sort of sandwich rather soggy.
There is even a serving of tomato relish, which actually goes pretty well with everything. I'm glad to see retailers moving away from spraying everything with ketchup - relish or salsa is more interesting and generally more tasty. The bread, a simple white roll is also fine.
This sandwich has some problems, most of which relate to quality and construction. However, it's a well-priced sandwich, packed with filling, and with plenty of flavour. And that's something pretty hard to fault.
