Tuna & Sweetcorn Tesco -- £0.97

Review posted: 11/12/2006Half right, half wrong. This sandwich improves on the normal version in one way, but is even worse in another. Overall it works out at about the same rating, and I still think it's unreasonable to expect decent tuna for this price. This sandwich is in the "Healthy Living" range.
The advantage of this sandwich over the conventional one is that it uses low fat yoghurt to mix the tuna, rather than mayonnaise. This has flavour that is complementary and isn't so rich, and it really helps the mildly flavoured tuna to impose itself better. It also takes the edge off the sweetcorn slightly, and the combination of the tuna and the sweetcorn is certainly better here than in the normal version.
However, something the mayonnaise did in the other version was it took the bitter edge off the malted brown bread. Here though, the yoghurts's flavour isn't nearly as strong, and as a result the bitter flavour of the bread is just too strong. The sweetcorn's bitterness (although reduced), still combines badly with that of the bread too.
So this really isn't any better or worse than the standard version. It treats the tuna better, but it allows the nasty flavour of the bread to take hold. Like with the standard one, there are better tuna sandwiches out there, you just have to be prepared to pay a little more.
