Ginsters -- £2.69

Nothing clever, but really tasty.

Sometimes a sandwich might not do anything fancy, or be novel in any way whatsoever, and still impress you. This sandwich is very much one of those, and its combination of good quality fillings, strong flavours and decent portions makes it a winner.

Ginsters chicken has always been pretty good, and I'm glad there's so much of it in this sandwich. The pieces are medium-sized, and this allows them to spread around the sandwich well. Its flavour comes through very well indeed, and it also has a pleasing texture.

The salad might not be novel or interesting, but its quality is good. The lettuce portion is sensible and it has a nice crunch to it that isn't often seen in pre-packed sandwiches. Similarly, the tomato slices are thick and juicy, and the cucumber portion is also decent. And it's always a bonus when the cucumber is nice and crunchy, and it certainly is here.

The mayonnaise is actually very nice - it's slightly peppered in flavour and it manages to be rich without seeming sickly. The malted brown bread is decent, but I think had the mayonnaise been weaker it would have posed more of a problem as it's slightly bitter.

Overall though, this is certainly a recommended sandwich. There's nothing frilly about it, and there are dozens of similar sandwiches. But it works because attention has been paid to the ingredients, and that's always a good thing.
