Chicken Salad Tesco -- £1.60

Review posted: 28/02/2007Nice but dry. This is yet another 'healthy' sandwich that seems like a proper meal, and that's certainly one of its plus points. The overall quality isn't too bad either, and the price is certainly competitive. However, there's no denying that this sandwich is just much too dry. This is in the 'Healthy Living' range.
It's always good to see plenty of chicken in 'healthy' sandwiches, and we certainly get this here. While it's not the pinnacle of quality, there's nothing wrong with its flavour or texture. There's also a good mix of salad, with plenty of lettuce, slices of juicy tomato and a few thin slices of cucumber. There isn't quite enough of the latter though, which is a shame because it robs the sandwich of much needed texture.
Like a lot of 'healthy' sandwiches, this one uses low fat dressing in place of regular mayonnaise. However, this lacks both the flavour and the consistency of mayonnaise. The portion is quite big enough either, and as a result this sandwich is simply too dry. The malted brown bread contains a little moisture, but it also has a bitter aftertaste which is made worse by the dressing's lack of flavour.
Overall though, this is certainly a respectable healthy sandwich. Its price is reasonable, the fillings are decent in terms of quality, and there is a good amount of them. The only problem with it is its dryness, and this is a shame because it would be so easy to fix.
