Roast Chicken & Salad
Tesco -- £2.10

Fine indeed, but not the finest.

There's no doubt that this is a very good sandwich. It's made with good ingredients, the portions are fine and the overall flavour is pleasing. However, there's a sense that had a few corners not been cut, it could have been something truly magnificent. This is in the 'Finest' range.

The chicken pieces are large and full of flavour. They also seem less 'artificial' than the usual Tesco chicken, and the portion is also pretty good. There's an impressive range of salad too, with a number of different leaves (including chard) used, as well as some thick and crunchy slices of fresh cucumber. The tomato slices are plentiful, and the tomato itself has a stronger flavour than what Tesco usually use (clearly it is of better quality).

But then things start getting a bit ordinary. The mayonnaise used is the same decent but uninspiring one Tesco use in a number of their other sandwiches. There's nothing wrong with it at all, but it doesn't really do as much as one would like. It's a similar story with the bread; they've used their boring and rather cheap malted brown again.

Overall this sandwich as a lot to recommend about it. Its overall flavour is actually very moreish and the price is decidedly mid-price too, which is always nice to see. But a few lazy decisions have resulted in a product that's very good indeed, but not as good as it could have been.
