Chicken Valentino
Pret a Manger -- £2.80

Still having problems.

I'm 99% sure this is just a renamed 'Chicken Caesar', but I'm going to review it anyway. It also seems to me that Pret have effected some changes to this sandwich, though their impact is limited to say the least.

The chicken portion, as always, is good. Pret are rarely ones for skimping on ingredients, and here it's no exception. There is some Caesar dressing too, but one of my complaints about the original Caesar sandwich was that there was too much of it. Here, that problem seems to have been addressed. The serving is smaller, and therefore the entire sandwich has a lighter flavour. It also provides a bit of much needed moisture.

The lettuce leaves and the tomato slices are fresh, as expected, and there's also an offering of matured Italian cheese. This serving is small, but its flavour is pungent. So much so that you notice it rather too much. Chicken is a relatively mild flavour after all, and this cheese is anything but. Maybe the extra dressing in the original sandwich muted the cheese to some extent, but it is rather too noticeable here. I also reckon the portion is a little bigger. The wholegrain bread is good, as always.

So it's about the same. Nice, professional and perfectly acceptable. But the balance is still a bit off insofar as there's still one ingredient that conquers all the others.
