Christmas Sandwich Pret a Manger -- £2.95

Review posted: 30/12/2005The case for making Christmas a weekly event. Since the "Turkey Club" isn't always available for some reason, it's good to get to the time of year when this excellent sandwich is around. Packed full of flavour and with alterations which distinguish it from the "Turkey Club", this is a very good purchase indeed. And 10p goes to charity!
All the positives from the aforementioned sandwich are here - the slices of tasty and moist turkey, the rich cranberry sauce and the crunchy, full-flavoured spinach. There are two additions which are very welcome indeed - pieces of lightly roasted onion which complement the turkey nicely, and a rich and tasty stuffing. The stuffing pieces are quite small, but the strongly herbed flavour is really very good, making it a superb addition.
In order for these two fillings to be added, this sandwich doesn't have the Greve cheese or slices of tomato. While they were good fillings in their own right, their rather mild flavours would have been lost with the new additions to this sandwich, so their omission is no real loss. All served on Pret's always excellent granary bread, this sandwich is delicious, and novel at the same time.
A side note is that because this sandwich has stuffing, this absorbs some of the moisture from the cranberry sauce (which was probably the biggest problem with the "Turkey Club") and makes it even more moreish.
Christmas sandwiches can often be a mixed bag as too often they seem like an afterthought, but this is a format which has worked well for a number of years now, and it's good to see it back at Pret as it really is one of their best products - enjoy!
