Review posted: 30/12/2005Great, but not for onion haters. A sandwich simply bursting with flavour. Depending on your preference of certain ingredients you might disagree, but what cannot be denied is that this is one of the most tasty sandwiches on the market.
The ham is the usual Pret ham, and it works just as well here as it does in other products, providing taste without being too sweet or overpowering. The eggs are just as successful, being cut into generous slices and with a lot of yolk, these are clearly good quality eggs and this is evidenced by their strong flavour. There is also a good mature cheese in this sandwich which adds another welcome flavour, as does a mild mustard mayonnaise which complements the sandwich perfectly.
The big bone of contention is likely to be the addition of a lot of red onion. If you like onion, then you will love this sandwich. However, for anyone who isn't a fan, it has the potential to ruin the sandwich as it has a very strong flavour and one which stays in the sandwich to a certain extent even if the onion is removed. Thankfully it doesn't overpower the other flavours so the sandwich is still a success even with this slightly unusual ingredient.
Finally, this is served in bloomer bread which is a perfect choice. Bloomer bread can often be too dry, but not here, and it has a very welcome flavour of its own alongside the strong ones of the ingredients themselves.
